The United States Penitentiary opened it's doors in 1895 at the old military prison on Fort Leavenworth. By July 1897 construction began on the new facility. Sun up to late afternoon inmates built the flagship of the Bureau of Prisons.

The institution has housed the most notorious criminals in American History. Frank Nash, Machine Gun Kelly, the Birdman, serial killer Carl Panzram, Frank "the enforcer" Nitti, Jack Johnson, Dr. Frederick Cook, Thomas James Holden, & Russell Buffalino just to name a few.

For the first time ever you the reader are taken on a tour inside by an author who walked amongst what most people fear. A trip inside the big house without having to go through a judge.
