Between Two Harbors – Reflections of a Catalina Island Harbormaster
Between Two Harbors is a wonderful memoir based on Doug Oudin's 32 years living and working as harbormaster on Santa Catalina Island. The book is beautifully written and packed with exciting sea stories, including the tragic death of actress Natalie Wood. From dramatic rescues, to violent storms, to numerous tales of ocean creatures, wild boar, buffalo, and tragic boating incidents, this is a true-life tale that vividly describes the uniqueness and difficulties of living on a remote island. It is also a poignant view into the personal life of Mr. Oudin and his wife Maureen, and their effort to raise two sons, and cope with the challenges of living in a small community where many of the 'normal conveniences' of life do not exist.
